Congratulations to the 4 cadets who attended the Kent Wing Sports Trials for Hockey and Tag Rugby. All cadets were selected to represent Kent Wing at the Region Competitions in October and November.
Hoo Peninsula Heritage Festival & Aveling 200The Squadron attend the inagural Hoo Heritage and Aveling 200 event on Saturday 7th September. We were invited to help celebrate the Engineer Thomas Aveling who was born and brought up in Hoo. A Celebration of his acheivements and his ties to the Medway towns. The Event was opened formally by Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Kent Jools Holland. Mr Holland spoken with many of the cadets, and complimented the bands performance. After the opening ceremony, many attended a short service in the local church where Thomas Aveling was buried.The Squadron band performed during the day, and helped with the opening ceremony. Other cadets were handing out programmes and working on our recruitment stand. The Event was also attended by the Rt Hon Kelly Tolhurst, and Councillor Nina Gurung, with other local councillors. They spent time with the cadets discussing the band peformances and other activities the cadets undertake. Congratulations Sir, a very well deserved appointment.Following a thorough selection process, we are pleased to announce Group Captain Al Lewis will be appointed Commandant RAF Air Cadets in the rank of Air Commodore, effective 23 September 2024.Gp Capt Lewis succeeds Air Commodore Tony Keeling OBE, who is retiring from the Service. Gp Capt Lewis is currently Commandant of London & South East Region RAFAC, and the process to identify a successor for this role is underway.Gp Capt Lewis said, “I have been humbled by the support over past months and thrilled to be appointed into the prestigious role as Commandant RAFAC. More Flying time for our Cadets. We had 4 further cadets attend RAF Benson over Easter. They were very lucky to be flown by Ex 1404 Cadet, Flt Lt Josh Brown. Who changed his plans to ensure he could fly cadets from his old squadron.He starts his Chinnock training this month. Great day for all.
