Despite the very disappointing news announced yesterday that no RAFAC teams are allowed to participate in the 4Daagse event today, our Cadets are making the most of their time here in Holland! This morning they have asked for a small party, so that we can get into the spirit of the marches. The Wednesday of the marches is used to celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community and our Cadets have specifically asked to show their support by wearing pink tops and sporting Pride flags! With 12 Cadets plus staff attending the Sector 5 Multi-Activity Camp down at Lydd Camp, Kent, with 12 other Squadrons.First time for Cadets in 18 Months to attend a Multi-Activity Camp, mainly for AT activities. Many experiencing a RAFAC camp for the first time. The Cadets had plenty of opportunities to experience each activity, these included Obstacle course, Mountain Biking, Watersports including canoeing & kayaking. Archery & DCCT Shooting plus STEM Challenges. The staff also had the opportunity to try out many of the activities also, enabling them to see which they want to take forward and become a leader of.Like everything in the RAFAC, it cannot run without volunteers. Very proud week for the squadron, one of our volunteers is recognised for his support of the Squadron and The Air Training Corps.Congratulations to our Squadron Chairman Mr Keith Simmons, who received his Lord-Lieutenant award from Kent Lord-Lieutenant, Lady Colgrain this week. It's recognition of his service to the RAF Air Cadets for the last 30 years. He is a fundamental part of the Squadron Civilian Committee, along with all its members to help raise funds and support the squadron. This enable the squadron to provide greater training and experience to the cadets. It's also great to see so many cadets back at the squadron after the pandemic. As the summer ends, we start the autumn with many more events being held across the Wing, we are slowly getting back to some normal. On Sunday 5th Sept, Kent Wing paraded at Brompton Barracks to celebrate the 80th Year of the Air Training Corps, with dedication and parading of the new Kent Wing Banner. The day was warm and sunny but credit to the cadets and staff to carry out their duties on the day and be part of such a large parade, the first large scale gathering of cadets and staff in Kent Wing for nearly 18 months. The squadron had over 20 cadets attend the event, with half performing in the Kent Wing Marching Band and the rest formally parading with over 250 fellow cadets. The staff also played key roles on the day, with Sgt Smith being a Flight NCO on parade. Flt Lt Ballard, OC 1404, First Aid officer for the day and APO Sherwood & CI Ballard providing First Aid support. Again our staff were only a fraction of the other Kent Wing staff who attended the event. We are sorry that Parents, Guardians and supporters of the Squadron couldn't attend the event. Due to the nature of the parade, location and the Covid restrictions, we hope the photos here plus hundreds more on the Kent Wing main page will help give you an insight into the day.www.facebook.com/474035002614145/posts/6393720210645565/ #whatwedo #rafaircadets ... The weather just about held off at the weekend, where the squadron attended the Kent Wing Marching Band Training. It was held over two days at Ditton Squadron and Ashford Squadron. It was good to see some of our new cadets join the regulars of the Band for the training days, again fully supported and transported by Sgt Smith. The Squadron is proud that our cadets make such a large contribution to the band in numbers, attendance and willingness to get involved. It's also great to see cadets getting back into some normal activities, and actually enjoy the RAF Air Cadet experience again. Regional Commandant LASER Air Cadets Kent Wing Air Cadets ...
